SampoMedia co-founder and the chair of Ffilm Cymru Wales, Michael Gubbins will be at the Cannes Film Festival from May 12-19th.
He will be chairing a number of industry events, including:
The European Audiovisual Observatory’s Ticket To Ride! What Makes European Films Travel.
Speakers at the event on the 14th at 9.30am include Ted Hope, Head Of Motion Picture Production at Amazon Studios and senior representatives of production and distribution.
Also on the panel are Stefano Massenzi, CEO of distributor Lucky Red; Daniela Elstner, CEO of sales agent Doc & Film; and Andrew Lowe, co-founder of Element Pictures.
On the 16th, Gubbins will be taking part in a seminar on diversity, organised by the Swedish delegation at Cannes. He will be talking about his report, Building Bridges, which is now available as a free download from film funding body CineRegio.
Gubbins will be chairing a session at Le Marche du Film’s NEXT event, which focuses on innovation and audience development in the film business. The session on the 17th at 10am with Europa Cinemas will look at how cinemas can attract Millennials to the big screen.
The speakers are Michel Ferry, Director and Programmer of Cinéma Les Carmes in Orleans; Allison Gardner, Programme Director at the Glasgow Film Theatre, and Krijn Meerburg, General Director of LantarenVenster, Rotterdam.
On the 18th, he will lead a session with the French CNC, looking at the impact of VOD on film and on practical ways to navigate the emerging market.
The speakers are Ira Deutchman, founder of the Deutchman Company and professor at Columbia University, Ariane Buhl, Digital Sales Manager at Gaumont, Jérôme Chung, co-founder of Under The Milky Way, Bobby Allen, VP of content at streaming service Mubi, Cédric Monnier , CEO of Flamefly, Tristan du Laz, of TF1 Studio and Wale Gbadamosi-Oyekanmi, of social TV agency, Darwin.
